Why Network?

When computers are networked, they can share resources.  For example, say you have a laptop and a desktop computer, and you would like them to be able to access the internet simultaneously.  You can achieve this by networking the two computers.  This also allows you to share files (such as document, music & photos) and also share printers (so that you can print to one printer from either computer).

Wired Or Wireless?

Most new laptop computers now include wireless network cards.  By using a wireless or "WiFi" network, you have the freedom to surf the internet or use other network resources from anywhere in your home or office.  This is very useful in situations where it is either too costly or impractical to lay cables.
